1A Boys District: Lynden Christian 71, Meridian 58

A lot went Wright for the Lynden Christian Lyncs in their 71-58, state tournament clinching victory over the Meridian Trojans, Saturday, at Lynden High School.

Lyncs senior post, Jeremiah Wright, dominated the interior of the Trojans defense, scoring 30 points, even seated for the last 5:44 of the first half with his second foul.  In fact, he picked up his third foul in the first minute of the third quarter.  No matter.

The Trojans did, however, slow down the Lyncs guard duo of senior Dawson Bouma and junior Gannon Dykstra.  The two combined for only ten points through the first three quarters.

It was the Trojans who gained the upper hand in the first half.  After trailing at the end of the first quarter by one, the Trojans built five-point leads in the second quarter and settled for a 33-30 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Trojans sharp-shooter, junior Talon Jenkins, made a nifty side-step of a Lyncs defender, and nailed a 3-pointer to give the Trojans a 40-35 lead.

The Lyncs then scored the next 13 points to take control of the game.  The Lyncs increased the lead to double digits in the fourth quarter.  The Trojans trailed by eight in the middle of the fourth quarter and had several possessions to cut into the Lyncs lead but could not hit that next big shot.

Bouma finished with 12 points, while Dykstra had 7.  Senior Kayden Stuit added nine points and was also an inside force, along with Wright.

Jenkins scored 24 for the Trojans, with fellow junior Jaeger Fyfe adding 16.  The Trojans will take on the Nooksack Valley Pioneers, for the third time this season, Friday at 530pm, at Lynden High School.  That will decide the second representative to the state tournament from the Northwest District.  The teams have split their first two meetings.
