The Anacortes Seahawks got 34 points from junior guard Davis Fogle, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the North Kitsap Vikings, in a 66-54 loss, Thursday, in the 2A state quarterfinals at the Yakima SunDome.
The Seahawks stayed even with the powerful Vikings through the first eight minutes as the teams finished the first quarter tied at 15-15.
Early in the second quarter, Fogle picked up his second foul, and the Vikings attacked the middle of the Seahawks defense at every chance.
The Seahawks trailed 30-25 at halftime and tied the game 36-36 at the 4:10 mark, on three free throws by Fogle.
After the Vikings forged another lead, the Seahawks got a big 3-pointer by sophomore reserve guard Gunner Willoughby to cut the Vikings lead to 46-44.
Vikings 6-5 senior guard Cade Orness was on the receiving end of two lob passes by fellow senior guard Harry Davies, as Orness flew along the baseline behind the Seahawks defense for dunks. The second was in the final seconds of the third quarter, as the Vikings stretched the lead to 50-44.
Orness, who scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half, hit three jump shots in the final minutes of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
Davies finished with 18, and junior guard Jordan Williams scored 15.
After Fogle’s 34, junior Jake Andrew and sophomore Micah Dickison were next with six points each, and five for senior Cooper Barton.
The Seahawks will play the loser of the quarterfinal game between Prosser and Grandview, Friday at 2pm. The winner will play for 4th and 6th place on Saturday.
