Sedro-Woolley, Ferndale, and Mount Vernon are preparing for their 3A district tournament games, all will play loser out games on Thursday, February 13. It will take a lot of work to get through the 12-team tournament. Four teams will advance to regionals.
The #6 seeded Cubs (10-5/11-6) will host #11 Everett (4-6/9-12) at 7:00pm. This will be a rematch of a game played on January 6, where the Seagulls took a 75-63 win on the Cubs floor. Everett finished tied for third in the Wesco 3A North.
The Cubs had a six-game win streak snapped with a pair of losses, then a win over Blaine in their final regular season game.
The Seagulls are a physical team and have some heavy hitters inside. The Cubs will have to do their best to match that on their defensive end, and not give the Seagull extra opportunities.
At the other end, hopefully home cook ‘in and the home crowd can help the Cubs find the net on a regular basis.
This is a loser-out game, with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals against #3 Monroe (10-0/18-3), champions of the Wesco 3A North.
The #8 seeded Ferndale Golden Eagles (8-6/10-9) will host #9 Meadowdale (3-9/10-11) at 7:00pm on Thursday. The Mavericks tied for sixth in the Wesco 3A South.
The Mavericks lost three straight games near the end of the season before a win over Stanwood.
Ferndale has had an interesting set of streaks this season. They have never won more than three games in a row, or lost more than two games in a row. In fact, their last 14 games have all been a rotation of two wins, followed by two losses. They just finished with two wins, so hopefully, that back-and-forth streak comes to an end on Thursday.
This is also a loser out game, with the winner advancing to a Saturday game at #1 Edmonds-Woodway (11-1/21-1), champions of the Wesco 3A South.
Mount Vernon (7-8/10-10) is the #12 seed and will hit the road for their district tournament game. The Bulldogs will play at Marysville-Getchell (8-2/14-7) in Thursday, at 7:00pm. The Chargers finished second in the Wesco 3A North.
The Bulldogs are playing well, having won four of their last five games. The Chargers will be a tough one as they have wins over NWC’s Squalicum, Bellingham, and Lakewood. Another loser out game, with the winner playing Saturday, at #4 Shorewood (8-4/14-8), third place in the Wesco 3A South.
