Bellingham 64, Nooksack Valley 50

The Bellingham Bayhawks kept their record perfect on the season, downing the Nooksack Valley Pioneers, 64-50, in a basket-brawl game at NVHS Saturday night.

The Bayhawks were able to match the physicality of the Pioneers, while still staying fluid with the shooting touch.  Especially, guards Wyatt Stephan and Harmon Wienkers.

The junior Wienkers helped the Bayhawks to a 30-20 halftime lead by hitting four 3-pointers.  Stephan, a senior, stepped up in the second half, scoring 13 of his game-high 19 points.  Wienkers finished with 17, and the Bayhawks also got 15 more from junior guard, Kincade Vanhouten.

Pioneer junior forward Tristan Kamphouse came off the bench and sank four 3-pointers in the second half, leading the Pioneers with 14 points.  Juniors Caden Heutink and Colton Lentz finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Bellingham (2-0/3-0) hosts Sedro Woolley (0-2/1-3) on Monday.  Nooksack (1-1/2-1) travels to Oak Harbor (0-2/1-3) on Wednesday.
