On Monday night, the Lynden Christian Lyncs, behind the 25-point first half performance from senior guard, Dawson Bouma, cruised to a 72-62 victory, at home over the Mount Vernon Bulldogs.
After a back-and-forth battle through the first eight minutes, the Lyncs stretched their two-point first quarter lead to 15 by halftime. Bouma sank seven field goals in the second quarter, scoring 17 of his team’s 23 points. The Lyncs led 42-27 at the half. Bouma finished with 27 points.
The Bulldogs had trouble negotiating the Lyncs man-to-man defense for open shots. The only Bulldog to have a great offensive night was junior guard, Michael Johnson, who scored 17 of his 27 points in the first half.
Along with scoring 27, Bouma also defended Bulldogs senior guard, Quinn Swanson, who entered the game averaging 30 points per contest. Swanson scored 11, with nine coming in the second half.
The Lyncs also got 16 points from junior guard, Gannon Dykstra, and 18 points from freshman forward, Kaden Veldman.
The Bulldogs (2-1/5-1) will play at Anacortes on Thursday. The Lyncs (3-0/5-0) will be at Bellingham on Friday, and travel to Tahoma High School on Saturday, for a game against 4A Kentridge.
