The Lynden Christian Lyncs won their 13th game in as many starts, as they defeated the Nooksack Valley Pioneers 72-42, at Kay LeMaster Gym, Friday night.
Over the last two seasons, the Lyncs have now won 25 consecutive games.
And, like most of their games, there was little suspense.
The Pioneers stayed competitive through most of the first quarter, until the Lyncs found their offensive rhythm. In the second quarter, senior guard Dawson Bouma nailed three 3-pointers in a row. Junior guard, Gannon Dykstra hit three buckets, and senior forwards, Jeremiah Wright and Kaden Stuit, also got into the flow.
Three of the four were in double-figures by halftime, as the Lyncs led 41-23.
The Lyncs can also play the other end of the floor, as every move the Pioneers made, the Lyncs man-to-man defense was one step ahead, forcing the Pioneers into uncomfortable shots.
Sophomore guard Cole Coppenger came off the bench to lead the Pioneers in scoring with ten points. Juniors Caden Heutink and Brady Ackerman had nine points each.
The Lyncs were led by Bouma with 21, including five 3-pointers, all in the first three quarters. Dykstra finished with 17, and Wright added 16.
The plays of the night go to Stuit, however.
Early in the fourth quarter, the 6-4 EWU football commit, scored on three consecutive 2-handed dunks. The first was from right under the rim. The second was on a beautiful drop-step move from the low post on an inbounds play. And for the third, he flushed a rebound. He finished with ten points.
The Lyncs are in a first-place tie with the Lynden Lions. Both teams are 7-0 in the conference.
The Pioneers will be at Squalicum on Tuesday, January 9. The Lyncs will take their undefeated record to Meridian on Thursday, January 11.
