The Meridian Trojans used a swarming full court press to build an early lead, and coasted to a 72-48 win over Blaine, Tuesday night, on their home floor.
While logging their fourth win in their last six games, the Trojans (3-5 in NWC) inch closer to Nooksack Valley (4-4), as they battle for the #2 seed to the 1A district tournament. They will meet on Tuesday at Nooksack.
Against Blaine, the Trojans built a quick lead as their full court press created several Borderite turnovers which led to easy offensive opportunities for the Trojans. Meridian built a 24-12 lead after one quarter, with junior guard Jaeger Fyfe scoring ten of those, mainly in transition.
Fyfe had 16 points by halftime and added 11 more in the third quarter to finish with 27. Junior guard Talon Jenkins scored 17 points for the Trojans, who built the lead to 30 points by the end of the third quarter.
The Borderites scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to narrow the gap. Senior forward Noah Tavis led the Borderites with ten points. Senior forward Connor Dalry and junior guard Josiah Weeda added nine points each.
The Trojans (3-5/8-6) will host Lynden Christian on Thursday. The Borderites (1-7/3-10) play at Lynden on Thursday.
