The Lynden Lions took a big step toward the top seed to the District 1 2A tournament with a 62-39 win over the Burlington-Edison Tigers, Monday night in Lynden.
With the score tied at 8-8, the Lions ran off nine straight points to begin to distance themselves from the Tigers. The Lions lead grew to 37-22 by halftime, and eventually to a 27-point lead late in the fourth quarter.
Lion freshman guard Finley Parcher led the Lions with 20 points, and was all over the floor creating transition opportunities for the Lions with defensive rebounds and steals.
Sophomore forward Payton Mills added 13 points for the Lions, as they spread the scoring around to nine different players.
The Tigers got 19 points from junior forward Chesah Holmes, who scored her teams first 12 points of the second half.
Going in to the contest, the Tigers held the top seed to district, with the Lions second.
The Tigers record fell to 11-2 in the conference, and 14-4 on the season. They finish the regular season with games at home against Bellingham on Tuesday, and at Oak Harbor on Thursday. The loss dropped the Tigers to the third seed to district, one spot below Archbishop Murphy of the Wesco Conference.
The Lions record improved to 11-1 in the NWC, and are now the top seed to the 2A district tournament. They are 17-1 on the season. They have games remaining Tuesday at Ferndale, Thursday at Mount Vernon, and Saturday hosting Lynden Christian.
All of the top three seeds are still up for grabs.
